A stunning sandstone fortress offering unique and lavish lodgings perfect for exclusive hire, honeymoons, small weddings, corporate functions and golf weekends on Scotland’s east coast.

Dating back to the 14th Century, this ancient sandstone fortress, immortalised by Sir Walter Scott in his novel ´The Antiquary’, is now a haven of hospitality and peace. Located just north of Dundee, Carnoustie, and Arbroath on Scotland´s East coast, The Castle stands within a short distance of the beautiful Angus Glens – some of the most striking scenery in Scotland where you can see eagles, buzzards and deer.

Make yourself at home in front of a roaring log fire one of the cosy sitting rooms; climb the secret stairwell from Cardinal´s Room and open the tiny door to an ancient chapel; sink into a plump sofa in the TV room; or admire the fine art adorning the Georgian drawing room. At the top of the Castle, reached by 3 of the 5 stone turnpikes, is the Tapestry Room, boasting glorious views over the surrounding countryside and farmland. The bedrooms are exquisite and inviting, with super-king or four-poster beds, private bathrooms, a sitting area and views over the garden and courtyard.

Situated in Scotland´s kitchen garden, all produce used at Ethie is of the freshest and highest standard. Breakfast and dinner are usually served in the Tudor Kitchen, where a fire burns in the massive inglenook fireplace; larger parties dine in the Castle Dining Room at the Great Table beneath the ornate plasterwork ceiling - this room can be accommodate parties of up to 40, and can also be used as a boardroom facility.

Out and About

Take a day trip to the local fishing town of Arbroath, with its working harbour and numerous Smokie houses. Take a tour of Glamis Castle – made famous by Shakespeare in Macbeth, and the home of the late Queen Mother. Head half-an-hour to Lunan Bay and walk along the highest cliffs on the Angus coast. Play a round of golf – with a plethora famous courses on the doorstep, this is golfing heaven.
